G18 Program | April 2024

The April programme of the G18 Gallery combines film theory with sustainable fashion – a lot of workshops, screenings and expert lectures await you.
20. 2. – 18. 4. 2024 Exhibition Laboratory of Jaroslav Kučera
The exhibition Jaroslav Kučera’s Laboratory will take you into the world of Czechoslovak cinematography in the 1960s and show the work of the cameraman as creative and artistic, in the form of an experimental laboratory. At the centre of the exhibition is the work of Jaroslav Kučera, who is inherently one of the most important creators of Czechoslovak cinema. He is known as a progressive cinematographer who has defined the visual form of a number of Czech films (including Diamonds of the Night, Daisies, Fruit of Paradise, All My Good Countrymen and Adela Has Not Had Her Supper Yet). Admission to the exhibition is free for all and can be visited during normal opening hours, Monday to Thursday, 1-6 PM.
G18 EduLab
The exhibition also includes an interactive G18 EduLab workshop, thanks to which visitors will be able to learn about the creative process of a cameraman such as Jaroslav Kučera. A gallery case is available for those interested, which will bring the work even closer.
8. 4. – 11. 4. 2024 Film workshops with Free cinema (for school groups)
As part of the lab, workshops for primary and secondary school students will be held in cooperation with the non-profit organization Free Cinema. Admission is free for all; school groups can register at janakova@utb.cz.
For primary schools
Movie Invention Funfair – In the Movie Invention Funfair, students will learn about many of the curiosities that led to the first screenings. In the workshop they will also create their own short film stories, which they will then be able to view using instruments such as the praxinoscope, zoetrope or through the magic lantern.
For secondary schools
Handmade Film – Workshop participants have the unique opportunity to film their own poetic works on film stock without the use of a film camera. The outcome of the workshop will be a performative screening of a collective film with live movement accompaniment that we will compose ourselves on the spot.
22. 4. – 28. 4. 2024 Fashion Revolution Week
For the second time, we have prepared a week-long programme dedicated to sustainable fashion as part of the international Fashion Revolution Week. Lectures, workshops and film screenings await you. During the whole week, the Fashion Design Studio from FMK UTB in Zlín will also present its local creations. Follow our website and social networks for a detailed programme.
