Educational programme for schools | Jaroslav Kučera Laboratory

The main focus of the Jaroslav Kučera Laboratory exhibition is the work of the important Czechoslovak filmmaker of the second half of the twentieth century, who contributed to such films as A Night at Karlstein, Daisies, Adela Has Not Had Her Supper Yet and many others. The exhibition provides an insight into his creative process and experimentation with film material. In cooperation with the non-profit organization Free Cinema, which has long been working to develop film and audiovisual education in Czech schools, we are offering a series of accompanying educational programs that provide a unique opportunity to explore the world of art and culture in a fun and creative way. Primary schools For primary schools, we offer a programme called Lunapark of Film Inventions, which introduces children to the history of film and allows them to create their own short film stories. Children will learn about devices such as the praxinoscope or the zoetrope and can then view their films. Secondary schools We offer a workshop called Handmade Film for secondary schools. Participants will get a unique opportunity to try their hand at “filming” their own poetic works on film stock without the use of a movie camera. We will work with 16mm and 35mm formats. Students will get a detailed look into the kitchen of classic projection technology and analogue editing. The workshops are for school groups of 10-15 pupils.
