Exhibition Explorations of Tradition

Exhibition duration: 12 December 2018 – 17 January 2019 Opening: 12 December 2018 at 6 PM. Tradition and sustainability in design from FMK studios. We have prepared a new exhibition for you. Explorations of Tradition, as the title of the exhibition suggests, will present the work of students of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications at Tomas Bata University in Zlin focusing on the theme of tradition and sustainability. The exhibition will be launched with an opening on 12 December 2018 at 6 pm in the G18 Gallery. Tradition was until recently a forbidden word in the context of art and design. Experiences and skills handed down over generations have been replaced over time by new technologies, approaches and thinking that have not looked back. The consequences of this temporary discontinuity can be seen in society, in the landscape and in nature. Today’s pressing need for sustainability can be seen as one of the consequences of the breaking of traditions, as a general desire for continuity or durability or renewal. The exhibition touches upon traditional crafts and practices, inspiration from folk motifs but also modern technologies, the usability of residual materials and, for example, ecological approaches in industrial production. What is traditional is inherently sustainable, what is truly sustainable will be traditional. Exhibitions called Surveys open at the G18 gallery of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications of Tomas Bata University in Zlin. Their basic aim is to present themes that are common to studios across the faculty and appear in the work of students independently of studio assignments. The exhibition Explorations of Tradition is loosely related to the previous exhibition Explorations of Living and presents sustainable design and design inspired by tradition. The exhibition will run until 17 January 2019 and will be open every day Monday – Thursday from 13:00 to 18:00. Exceptions are the days from 24 December 2018 to 1 January 2019 included, when the exhibition will be closed.
